Notes: Hiroyuki Tajima's prints are unlike almost any other woodblocks of the period. Rich layers of pigment, deeply textured surfaces, and subtle variations in color create an image that seems to glow from within. Green Wall is rewarding to spend time with. Its restrained palette of moss green, olive, and pale blue creates a calm atmosphere, while the flowing black lines and luminous circular form keep the eye gently moving through the composition. Like many of Tajima's finest prints, it reveals qualities that photography cannot fully capture. As the light changes throughout the day, different textures and layers emerge, giving the print a quiet vitality that is best experienced in person.
