Notes: Summer Ocean combines Ay-O's celebrated rainbow spectrum with a playful evocation of the sea. A simple white sailboat drifts across layered bands of radiant color while a distant steamship and curling plume of smoke punctuate the horizon. The contrast between these quiet narrative elements and the artist's undulating fields of color creates an image that is both visually dynamic and surprisingly serene. A leading member of the international Fluxus movement, Ay-O became internationally recognized for transforming the rainbow into a distinctive artistic language.
