Notes: A rare and conceptually playful woodblock print by Norinaka Suzuki built from the facial features of traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls. Rather than depicting a single figure, Suzuki combines eyes, brows, noses, and mouths drawn from multiple dentō (traditional) kokeshi lineages into one composite mask-like form, creating a visual homage to regional carving traditions across Tōhoku. Both graphic and self-referential, the work stands apart from the artist’s still-life prints as an inventive meditation on kokeshi design, identity, and folk tradition.
