Notes: One of Umetaro Azechi's iconic abstract mountain-man compositions, Summer Mountain Man exemplifies the artist's highly personal visual language developed during the postwar Sōsaku Hanga movement. Constructed from bold geometric forms and a restrained palette of deep blue, green, gray, black, and touches of red, the print transforms the solitary mountaineer into an almost symbolic figure—at once human, landscape, and spirit. A passionate climber himself, Azechi devoted much of his career to depicting mountain people and their intimate relationship with nature.
