Notes:
A striking abstract landscape woodblock by Fumio Fujita, one of the most distinctive voices in postwar Japanese printmaking. Known for reducing natural forms to elemental structures, Fujita often returned to forests, snowfields, and seasonal transitions as recurring motifs.

This composition transforms a winter grove into a rhythmic lattice of white trunks set against a saturated crimson ground, creating a strong tension between stillness and intensity. The flattened space and repeated vertical forms produce an almost musical cadence, while the limited palette heightens the emotional atmosphere.

Fujita’s mature prints occupy a fascinating space between landscape, abstraction, and pattern. This work is an excellent example of his ability to distill the Japanese winter landscape into something both deeply familiar and formally modern.
